In Old Poetry

whoa.
i did not understand a word you said.
well, most of it at least.
my brain hurts.

Old sketchbooks no longer devour
birthing landscapes, cloud notes or a resting cow. An anonymous girl drips autumn
along a bank, and two lovers will never kiss.

--i got this part. i liked this part. why?
1) because i understood you
2) because it has beautiful imagery.

um...it would be nice if your poems made sense to the common people. backstory, maybe, or am i asking for too much?
i liked the style of this poem - the odd, random linebreaks.

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
